Hello, friends and family. Again, we apologize for the infrequent updates to this blog as of late. We have run into a string of bad luck, I'm afraid, in finding the internet up and running at our hostels and hotels. However, for those of you who were wondering, we ARE alive and well!
We just arrived in Frankfurt this afternoon from Paris. We have completed our European loop together through Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, France, and back to Germany again. It has been pretty much awesome. Alas, I am to fly out for the good ol' US of A tomorrow morning, and Mary will continue her wanderings with her mother, who arrives tomorrow evening. She may update her blogs if she feels like it over the next few weeks, so if you are interested in what she and her mom are up to, you'll want to check those.
For the amount of time we had in Paris, we really (and I mean really) DID Paris, if you know what I mean. We did the Louvre the afternoon we got there. That evening we decided to walk to the Arch de Triomphe from our hotel instead of taking the metro, which turned out to take a lot longer than we thought, but it was fun all the same. The next day we took the metro out to a huge graveyard and saw the graves of all sorts of composers and writers. We went to Victor Hugo's house from there before walking along the river under the bridges and hitting Notre Dame, the garden next to the Louvre, and that tower thing everyone talks about. We had our one big night out on the town and got a really nice dinner at this bistro place with some French name (go figure), and it was probably the most delicious stuff I've ever tasted. We even got dessert, and I think I almost died of yumminess. Oh, and it happened to be Bastille Day (like France's independence day), so we wrapped everything up with a spectacular fireworks show next to the Eiffel Tower across the Seine. The French know how to do fireworks, let me tell you. They did in the first two minutes of a thirty minute show what most shows in the states would consider a finale. Sweeeet.
Well, folks, it's been a pleasure. I am officially signing off of the Grand European Adventure! Can't wait to catch up with all of you. Love you lots!
